National Geographic Widgets Disprove the Magazines Prehistoric Profile

As archaic as the National Geographic may have been thought to be and as its only existence has been aligned with the ‘traditional’ glossy magazine, with a yellow stripe around its edges. It has come out with an announcement, which is proving the naysayer’s wrong in their profile of the publication.

The National Geographic will join the likes of USA today and will offer widgets for install on sites or reader pages in social networks. The widgets will allow users to gather news from the National Geographic at their desired web destination. The information disseminated through the widgets will come in the form of videos, pictures and regular news text. The widget move, as seen with the Big 3 newspapers, will hopefully bring more awareness to the already powerful site the National Geographic maintains.

I suspect that you will see more e-centric releases from the National Geographic, as they have recently appointed an ex AOL executive (John Caldwell) to head up Strategic Development for Digital Media.
