The Chicago Sun-Times has recently launched a program designed to increase its print circulation in an attempt to turn a downward revenue trend into a positive.
The program is called Scratch2Win and it is scheduled to run for six weeks. The prizes vary, but the top cash prize is stated to be $25,000! To get a scratch card, readers are directed to pick up the newspapers Wednesday edition and winning numbers are published online and in print.
Circulation has been an ailing part of newspapers as more and more of their readers have gravitated to the online version and although this is a formidable attempt to turn things around, the Chicago Sun-Times needs to think about their post-promo plan - Retention - How will they retain the readers acquired as a result of the Scratch2Win program? Now that’s the question.
