What Little I Know…

classified media & the publishing industry

Say what? You’re going to charge for online content…

Someone pull out the almanac. Yes, I said almanac because this story throws me back at least 10 years!

The Newport Rhode Island Daily has decided to start to monetize their Internet news content, by charging their online readers. The newspaper will charge $245 per year to a subscriber who gets the printed edition, coupled with access to the newspapers online content.  Moreover, anyone looking to get access to the dailies news in a Web only format will be served with an astronomical $345 per year, subscriber fee!

With newspapers closing their doors at an alarming rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Newport R.I. Daily joined the ranks of papers sadly sitting R.I.P. status.
