Black Press Revives Community with the Addition of Rossland News
When so many publishers are closing their doors or lessening the numbers in their publication suite, we see Black Press in Canada add another!
Black Press, who already owns and operates the Trail Rossland News , purchased a nearby regional title, The Trail Daily News. Instead of merging the two titles together, Black Press publisher has decided to get hyper local by operating both newspapers independently, and giving Rossland BC their own title.
“In the past Rossland has supported its own community newspaper quite successfully,” said Black Press Group Publisher for the Kootenay Region, Chuck Bennett. “Rossland is such a unique community, and its large enough to deserve its own newspaper.”
There is no doubt that in this era of print, community news and niche magazines seem to be boding well, as they tap into specifics (nearby geography or interests), as opposed to the generalizations we find with daily news. So, although the formula of adding print titles seems to go against the recent norm, Black Press is right in continuing along their community news growth and strategic plans.
